Jose Vivanco's Story

I am nominating my father, Jose Vivanco, Sr. My father was born in the communist country of Cuba. He is a citizen of the United States of America and a very proud, loyal, patriotic citizen! He proudly calls the United States of America his home and honors the freedom that was bestowed upon him. He has devoted his life to serving others, beginning with his own family, 6 children, 25 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren… He is 79 years old and hasn’t stopped working for a moment, constantly supporting America by attempting to educate others (even strangers) on the true meaning of the freedom he fought for; he continues to serve where he can, voting polls, volunteering to help people suffering from cancer taking them to appointments, he’s a farmer and a true AMERICAN.

He came to the United States at a young age, 20. Shortly before his 21st birthday he joined forces with a team led to overthrow Fidel Castro in The Bay of Pigs Invasion April 17, 1961. Unfortunately, due to failed efforts he was captured along with fellow comrades and was held prisoner for approximately 18 months until the US government purchased the POWs. When he was freed he joined the US Army and was given the rank of 2nd Lt. He took his oath of citizenship on the airfield in route to Vietnam, where he fought and served as a tank commander; he was one of the lucky ones who made it back alive. He was honorably discharged with his last position as Captain, stationed in Ft. Hood, Texas.

My father is a true example of a man that has given his heart and soul to people of the United States of America and our freedom! I am honored to tell his story! Leading his example are Logan John Corse, my children’s father who also served in the US Military and is a retired combat wounded veteran and now my son, Hunter Luis Corse who is serving his 5th year in the Army National Guard and is a civilian police officer. My father has set an example for many and continues to do so. I am honored to submit his story for consideration of the drawing Hicks is having for Veterans on this Independence Day, 2017! Interesting TID BIT… He spent his civilian life volunteering as a soccer coach for young men from the age of 5 to 20, The ASA Mustangs and was inducted into the GA State Soccer Hall of Fame in 2007. The young men have kept in touch with him to this day!

I was afraid I'd need a new roof but they came out and and explained what they needed to do to make it last a few more years. Great. Did a fabulous job and so far so good. My only fear was watching them do their job on my high roof. By the way, I sell Real Estate and refer them to my clients too. Honest, dependable and reachable!
